Simple and sales funnel…all in one sentence?
Sounds unbelievable right?
I was freaking out at the thought of creating my first sales funnel several months ago.
But I’m so glad I did because that funnel has single-handedly helped to bank several thousand dollars in just a few short months.
I started to get my hands on all things sales funnels some time last year, but what intrigued me the most was this free course by Elise from House of Brazen. I’ve gone through several email courses and this was one of the few that I was personally looking out for in my inbox. Elise makes the entire sales funnel process seem effortless and she takes the scary out of it.
I’ve connected with her on several occasions after that and had so much fun putting these questions together for her.
She doesn’t hold anything back in this interview and even spills it all on creating your first sales funnel with a simple tripwire product. Something I’m itching to try….

#1 How did you get started with your first sales funnel and why did you choose to focus on them?
I started learning about sales funnels way back in 2015 by Russell Brunson who is like the Grandfather of sales funnels. His book Dotcom Secrets was my bible for months! At first it was like reading a foreign language, I’d never seen a sales system laid out step-by-step like this so it felt really overwhelming thinking about all the moving parts I’d have to implement to get it started. But I knew that the information I was reading was gold (literally!) and very profitable because I didn’t see a lot of entrepreneurs doing them at the time.
Over several more months I studied courses and content on sales funnels by Stephanie Nickolich, Mariah Coz, Regina Anaejionu and various other entrepreneurs. I was able to see sales funnels from the many different perspectives and was able to mould that info into something that resonated with me. That’s when I decided to finally build my first funnel, and my free course Blog Your Way to Passive Income was born!
#2 For most bloggers, a sales funnel is this scary, big and complicated word. How would you explain what a sales funnel is to someone who is completely green to this?
This is definitely true! I really had to strain my brain to get my head around it all, but I swear it’s actually NOT complicated if you stop looking at it like it’s an algebra exam!! 😂
Here’s how I look at it. All entrepreneurs obviously know that in order to sell their products they need to actually sell and market the product. And what most entrepreneurs do is manually sell the products themselves. That means they’re on social media promoting in facebook groups, twitter, instagram, pinterest and google+ etc. They’re working tirelessly to build rapport with new interested customers, answering questions and replying to emails. They’re sending countless newsletters to their list each and every day to drum up new sales and so on and so forth..
But when they run out of steam, something else comes up or life gets busy, the selling stops and so do the sales. So with a sales funnel, it takes off the entire load of marketing, building rapport and selling to each and every person you can and does it for you on autopilot 24/7. It’s like the Nanny for your Biz Baby! 😃
I created my (extremely) simple and totally not perfect funnel back in February 2016, I haven’t changed a thing since then and it still churns out the sales every single day.
#3 For someone who is on the fence about creating their own sales funnel because they are worried that it’s techy and complicated, what advice would you give as to why it’s important the difference it could make to their business?
You have to look at your goals. Why are you getting into business in the first place? Is it to be able to spend more time with your family, your children, your husband? To be able to travel the world for months at a time? Is it to be financially secure or be a stay-at-home-parent?
If any of those are your goals like me, then what you really want is time. Without an evergreen sales system set up, a lot of your time is going to be spent on and in your business because it can’t stay afloat without you actively hustling. When you implement an evergreen sales system, a sales funnel, you leverage yourself out of a huge part of your business and now you have more time, plus income! 😉
So you’ve got to ask yourself, if time and freedom is your goal, learning a little bit of tech really won’t hurt all that much will it?
#4 You’ve inspired a lot of people to have their own passive sales funnel (me included). What would you say is the #1 mistake people are making with their funnels?
Yikes, there’s actually quite a few things I see going wrong. Waiting waaaaaay too long to create a funnel, going after the big sale too soon, offering a random product that isn’t related to the funnel topic, not actually selling until the end of your funnel.. the list goes on!
But what I believe is the #1 mistake people are making is not capitalizing on the new people entering their funnels with an introductory offer. I make a good portion of my income from my intro offer (or tripwire product) and all it’s there for is to introduce your new customer to your work. When they make a low-risk purchase from you from the get-go, they’re instantly more invested, engaged and connected to you and what you do. And that means they’re more inclined to purchase from you again.
#5 You’ve written a lot about how a simple passive income funnel you set-up brings in $1000+ in revenue each month. What advice would you give a blogger who wants to create her own sales funnel. Where should she even start?
The easiest (and my personal favourite) place to start is by creating your front end funnel. Start by using a current opt-in offer you have and a product that relates to that opt-in offer i.e You have an opt-in for a free ebook your fave Pinterest marketing hacks and you sell a course on how to increase your traffic with Pinterest.
Next when they opt-in for that offer you want them to be sent to a thank you page. If you already have one, great use that one. If you don’t, go and create one. This page is no longer going to be just a thank you page, it’s going to be a thank you upsell page. This is where you will have your introductory offer.
There’s a couple of ways you can do this but the easiest is to use your main product and put it at a special price. You’ll have a quick blurb about the product, a picture of it and a buy now button with the special price. You also mention that this offer is only available at this time only on this page and once the person clicks off it’s no longer available. You can do this with countdown timers but it also works without them.
And there you have it! This front end funnel alone can make you decent income every day. But to get the full benefits, you want to add on the back end funnel too!
#6 How long does it realistically take to set-up a sales funnel and how soon can one start to see some results from it?
It took me less than 7 days to create my full funnel, but just the front end of my funnel took me less than a day. The back end of my funnel took longer because it’s a course and there’s a lot more content creation involved. But once you understand the bones of a funnel you can literally chop and change the things you want in your funnel to cater to the content and product you’re promoting!
#7 Some bloggers get really discouraged when they see that their sales funnel is not performing as well as they had planned. What steps can they take to analyze what went wrong. What advice would you give to them?
You’ve gotta tweak and experiment! Is your content too broad? Too specific? Are you encouraging your customers to write back to you? Are you waiting too long to pitch? Are you being too salesy? What’s your sales copy like? Is there something you need to tweak? Are you even asking for the sale? Is the value you’ve given genuinely valuable? How are you positioning it? Is it interesting? Is the topic popular in your industry? Have you been marketing and promoting it at all?
Just because it isn’t performing well right now doesn’t mean it’s crappy or the world hates you! You’ve just got to test things out, see what works, drop what doesn’t and move onto the next thing. ANYONE can do this and make good money from sales funnels. You’ve just got to hang in there, be proactive and take action!
